Tnecniv's Guide To Tanking

First thing is first: make sure you are in the right form. Whether it's a warrior's stance, a pallie's aura, druid's shapeshift, or DK's aura. I know that KT likes to be in Crusader Aura for his tanking.  Ghall is a big fan of being in no stance as a warrior.  I prefer to tank in kitty form.

Second, make sure you have applied the right buffs to yourself. Scroll of Spirit ftw! You can never have enough spirit as a tank. In fact, the more spirit you have, the faster Captain Planet can be summoned--because spirit = heart!

Third, when fighting mobs, be aware of the debuffs on you. If you are standing in fire, you'll probably have a debuff that tells you that you are taking damage--STAND IN IT! Nothing makes your healers happier, than giving them something to do.

Fourth, I'm not event going to talk about key bindings because you shouldn't even click--just stand there when fighting mobs--if you can't stare them down into submission then you'll never be a good tank.

Fifth, if the healer gets aggro--start healing yourself and ignore them.

I think this is a really good start to understanding the basic mechanics of tanking. But I'll leave you with this final note. If you take nothing else from this post, then heed this--don't ever, ever, ever use consumables! It's a waste of precious gold that you could use on purchasing [Ice Cold Milk].
